RI DEM Employees Recognized for Outstanding On-Site Wastewater Technical Assistance

(Boston, Mass. January 28, 2009) – Alexandre Pinto and Matthew Puglia of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management were recently honored with the "2008 Regional State Wastewater On-Site Technical Assistance Provider Award" by EPA.

This EPA award program recognizes state personnel in the wastewater field who have provided valuable and noteworthy on-site technical assistance to municipal wastewater treatment facilities throughout New England.

“The professionals providing technical assistance and training to wastewater treatment plants play a crucial role in ensuring that our lakes and rivers are protected from unnecessary pollution,” said Ira W. Leighton, acting regional administrator for EPA's New England Office. "I am proud to acknowledge Mr. Pinto’s and Mr. Puglia’s outstanding contributions to protect water quality and public health, keeping Rhode Island’s waterways clean.”

EPA’s New England office formally acknowledged Mr. Pinto and Mr. Puglia at the annual New England Water Environment Association Conference at the Boston Copley Marriott Hotel on January 28th.
