THREE CONVICTED OF CONSPIRACY TO
ILLEGALLY DUMP WASTE WATER
Allied Environmental Services Inc., its president, Koteswara Attaluri, and the owner of Overholt Trucking, Mac DeWayne Overholt, were convicted in U.S. Northern District Court in Oklahoma on Oct. 20 of conspiring to violate the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act and to commit fraud. Overholt was also convicted of violating the Clean Water Act and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. Over a 15-month period during 1994 and 1995, Allied removed more than 310,000 gallons of petroleum-tainted wastewater from military facilities in Kansas and Missouri. Overholt transported the waste water to Oklahoma and disposed of it by injecting it into wells in three counties without a permit. The defendants will be sentenced on Jan. 31. The case was investigated by the EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division, the Department of Defense Criminal Investigations Service and the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality.
