Media Advisory: U.S. EPA Publicly Releases Notification Letter to Local Polluter
WHAT:
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has posted a copy of their notification letter to Greka Oil and Gas, Inc., notifying the company of the EPA’s intent to assume control of cleanup operations. A federal on-scene coordinator verbally met with, and notified Greka of the EPA’s intent on March 31, 2008. The letter was delivered to Greka on April 1, 2008. The letter details EPA’s decision to take over operations in the creek. Of primary concern to the EPA is the continued threat of an oil discharge to waters of the United States. Prior to the EPA’s assumption of cleanup control, no work had been completed in the creek in more than two weeks.
