EPA to Observe Children's Health Month with Special Event Oct. 28 at Park Hills, Mo.

(Kansas City, Kan., Oct. 26, 2011) - In recognition of Children’s Health Month, EPA Region 7 will hold an event to highlight the positive impact of lead cleanup in St. Francois County on children’s health, schools, and the local economy on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at the Mid St. Francois County Head Start in Park Hills, Mo.
As a part of the event, EPA Region 7 will donate new HEPA vacuum cleaners to the administrators of five local child care centers. EPA Region 7 Administrator Karl Brooks will attend the event and give remarks. At the conclusion of the event, Mr. Brooks and event participants will be available to the media for a question and answer session.
October was established as Children’s Health Month in 1992 by the American Academy of Pediatrics. EPA established the Office of Children’s Health Protection in 1997 to focus efforts on research, policy issues, and public outreach regarding children’s environmental health.
