CUMULATIVE RISK ASSESSMENT GUIDANCE
RELEASED FOR PUBLIC COMMENT
A draft EPA guidance on conducting cumulative risk assessment for pesticides undergoing reregistration and tolerance reassessment will be made available for public comment on June 30. This cumulative risk assessment considers the combined risks from exposure to different pesticides that act the same way in the body, such as the organophosphate pesticides. This cumulative risk assessment will help EPA to make regulatory decisions that fully protect public health and especially the health of infants and children. Elements of this guidance have been peer reviewed by EPA’s Scientific Advisory Panel in September and December 1999. A Federal Register Notice of Availability will be published on June 30th, the guidance will also be available at: www.epa.gov/trac/science and in the Office of Pesticide Programs public docket (703-305-5805). In addition to making the guidance available for comment, EPA plans to hold a public briefing on July 20th to further explain the guidance. This public briefing will be announced in the Federal Register.
