Dave Ryan 202-564-7827 / [email protected]

EPA is sponsoring the 5th Annual Landfill Methane Outreach Program Conference from Dec. 12-14 in Washington, D.C. The conference will include speakers on new technologies, financing tools, case studies and projections for the future of the landfill gas industry. Included is a special workshop titled, A Leveraging Green Power Markets: Opportunities for Landfill Gas. @ As energy marketers and utilities seek environmentally friendly energy sources to offer their customers, landfill methane is gaining attention as a renewable energy resource. The workshop highlights the outlook for landfill gas in the power market, project financing opportunities and case studies from utilities and developers who have succeeded in finding markets for landfill gas as a power source. On Dec. 13, a special awards ceremony will be held to recognize the accomplishments of the landfill gas industry. Dec. 14 will feature the annual Project EXPO, a networking opportunity for landfills to share information about their sites and to discuss potential project options. The conference is sponsored by EPA = s Landfill Methane Outreach Program, a voluntary program that aids and promotes the use of landfill gas as a renewable energy resource. By helping landfills and communities capture and use landfill gas rather than emitting it to the atmosphere, the program has reduced emissions of greenhouse gases by over 11 million tons since 1995, equivalent to removing over nine million cars from America= s roads. The Conference is being held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.
