EPA to hold public meeting regarding the proposed plan for the Lyman Dyeing and Finishing site in Lyman, South Carolina

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold a public meeting on Thursday, August 7, 2003 regarding the Proposed Plan for cleanup at the Lyman Dyeing & Finishing Site in Lyman, South Carolina. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Middle Tyger Community Center, 84 Croce Road in Lyman. Prior to the meeting, an Availability Session will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. for the public to review documents and ask questions about the site. All interested parties are encouraged to attend the meeting to provide input to EPA.
The Proposed Plan considers the following alternatives for addressing soil contamination at the site: Alternative Type of Action and Estimated Cost 1. No Action $ 546,584 Based on the Administrative Record File and the comparative evaluation of alternatives, EPA recommends Alternative 7 for addressing soil contamination at the Site. EPA believes the alternative will provide the greatest level of protection for human health and the environment that can be accomplished in the shortest amount of time. Prior to selection of the cleanup plan, EPA will consider oral and written comments from the public and provide responses to those comments. The public comment period will begin on August 7, 2003 and end midnight September 5, 2003. EPA encourages interested citizens to review the proposed plan and other related materials in the information repository at Middle Tyger Branch Library, 170 Croce Road in Lyman. Based on public comment, EPA, in consultation with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, may modify the Preferred Alternative, or select a different alternative from among those presented in the proposed plan. |
