Boston - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New Bedford Harbor Superfund Site Community Forum are hosting the monthly meeting of the Hot Spot / Confined Disposal Facility Subcommittee tomorrow, January 27, 2000. This subcommittee meets the last Thursday of each month beginning at noon at 103 Sawyer Street, New Bedford. Meetings are open to the public.
The Hot Spot / Confined Disposal Facility Subcommittee of the New Bedford Harbor Superfund Site Community Forum provides a venue for exchanging information and for public input. The subcommittee addresses the removal of the hot spot sediment (the worst five acres of contaminated sediment) and the design and construction of the four confined disposal facilities which will be built along the New Bedford shoreline to contain the contaminated sediment from the upper and lower harbor. These confined disposal facilities will create approximately 44 new acres of shoreline with a mixture of open space and working waterfront.
The New Bedford Superfund Site Community Forum was established in 1993 and is composed of community and business leaders, locally elected officials, and city, state and federal government representatives. It meets quarterly to provide guidance in the cleanup of the New Bedford Harbor Superfund Site.
