LOUISIANA CHEMICAL BUSINESS AND OWNER CHARGED WITH HAZARDOUS WASTE AND CLEAN WATER VIOLATIONS
On Oct. 9, a federal grand jury in Lafayette, La., charged John Wesley Broussard, president and chief executive officer, and Anti Freeze Inc., both of Abbeville, La., in a six-count federal felony indictment for violations of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Clean Water Act (CWA). If convicted on all counts, Broussard faces a maximum penalty of up to 28 years imprisonment and a maximum fine of up to $1.5 million. Anti Freeze Inc., faces a maximum penalty of up to $3 million, if convicted on all counts. The case was investigated by EPA's Criminal Investigation Division, Custom Service, the Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Task Force on Environmental Crimes.
