PA HANDBOOK OF INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT FOR TURF & ORNAMENT
FOR RELEASE: MONDAY, OCTOBER 31, 1994
NEW REFERENCE BOOK ON THE USE OF INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT
FOR TURF AND ORNAMENTALS NOW AVAILABLE
Integrated pest management recently received a shot in the arm with the publication of a reference book, "Handbook of Integrated Pest Management for Turf and Ornamentals" by Lewis Publishers. The new text was planned, organized and edited by Anne R. Leslie, an employee in EPA's Office of Pesticide Programs. She is nationally recognized for her continued efforts and contributions toward fostering pollution prevention and integrated pest management, particularly on turf. The one-volume work is over 650 pages long and contains 57 chapters covering numerous issues such as the management of insects, weeds and diseases in trees and shrubs, as well as turf around the home, golf courses, parks, highway right-of-ways, schoolgrounds and sod farms. The chapters were compiled by more than 80 researchers and experts from throughout the United States. Each chapter is followed by a variety of references. The new handbook is intended for professionals who deal with urban landscaping and turf management of all kinds, but also would serve as a handy reference for anyone interested in developing sound landscape management. Royalties from sale of the book will go to a non-profit organization associated with the National Park Service to support future integrated pest management projects.
