Why hasn’t the Erie Coke site been identified as a Superfund Site?
The former coke facility is currently under the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Hazardous Sites Cleanup (HSCA) Program. PADEP continues to investigate the former Erie Coke facility, and EPA is focusing on the residential areas around the facility to determine if contaminants were released into the surrounding area. PADEP continues to investigate the former coke facility, and EPA will evaluate the data and determine if the site should be placed on the National Priorities List in the future.
