El Paso, TX
What brought you to EPA?
I worked at the lab as a contractor for four years, then got hired by EPA in 1997.
Describe the type of work you do at EPA.
I am group coordinator for the organic section. I perform final data review for analytical raw data packages. I also perform analysis for semivolatile compounds in various matrices by gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy, which involves running sample extracts through the instruments and generating reports. In addition, I administer our LIMS (laboratory information management system), which involves training of software, troubleshooting, creating and updating reports generated through the LIMS.
What is your highest level of education? What was your major?
I have a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Texas A&M University.
What message would you like to send other members of the LGBT community who are considering college or a career in environmental protection?
The environment is our future. If we don’t take care of it we will not survive. It is extremely rewarding to have a career that helps to protect the environment and the EPA is a wonderful place to work.
