The following timeline presents major milestones in the U.S. landfill gas energy industry over a 50-year period and LMOP accomplishments for the 30 years the Program has existed.

Milestone definitions:

• LFG: landfill gas
• RNG: renewable natural gas
• CNG: compressed natural gas
• NSPS/EG: New Source Performance Standards and Emissions Guidelines under the Clean Air Act
