Sources of Radiation Used in Power Generation
Many resources of energy are associated with radioactivity, not just nuclear power plants.
Some power plants use nuclear fuel to create heat energy that is used to generate electricity, while some power plants use natural resources such as coal and other fossil fuels that contain may radioactive materials. The radioactive materials in these resources may be concentrated as they are produced, transported, and burned to generate heat and electricity. Some of these things will be found in other places you visit in your day-to-day life. The following fact sheets explain more about these sources of power:
- Nuclear Power Plants
- Radioactive Wastes From Coal-fired Power Plants
- Radioactive Waste Material From Oil and Gas Drilling
