Regional Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (RESES) Research Program Webinar Archive
This webinar, recorded on March 18, 2020, featured Sarah Mazur, Associate National Program of EPA’s Sustainable and Healthy Communities Research Program; Max Krause, Environmental Engineer in the Office of Research and Development; Joyce Stubblefield, Environmental Scientist in EPA Region 6; and Leah Sharpe, Decision Scientist in the Office of Research and Development, presenting on "EPA’s Regional Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (RESES) Research Program: Supporting Work with States on Landfills with Elevated Subsurface Temperatures and Resilience to Flood Impacts." This webinar provides a brief overview of RESES and highlights two projects on elevated temperature landfills and resilience to impacts from riverine flooding. In the first project, EPA is working with the state of Ohio to explore the use of Landsat thermal imaging to detect landfills with elevated subsurface temperature. In the second project, EPA is working with Lousiana and local stakeholders in Ouachita Parish to use a Structured Decision Making approach to assess community sustainability goals and how best to prepare for future extreme events.
