Registration for the Engines and Vehicles Compliance Information System (EV-CIS)
A manufacturer code is a 3-character, alpha-numeric code that EPA assigns to entities that need to submit information to the Engines and Vehicles Compliance Information System (EV-CIS). This includes companies that want to certify their vehicles, engines, or equipment with EPA, or entities that need to submit information such as compliance reports or other information required by EPA. Only one manufacturer code is assigned to each entity, even if that entity plans to certify products from multiple industries.
Follow these steps to electronically register a company for a manufacturer code:
STEP 1: Create a temporary user account for EV-CIS MFR REG.
Manufacturer code requests are submitted electronically through EPA's Central Data Exchange EV-CIS and require one user to create this temporary user account.
For step-by-step instructions, read Section A in: User's guide for registering a company
STEP 2: Electronically register your entity’s manufacturer code.
Complete this step to register an existing code in EV-CIS OR request a new manufacturer code.
For step-by-step instructions, read Section B in: User's guide for registering a company
STEP 3: Receive status notification from EPA.
After EPA reviews the request, you will receive an email and a notification in your MyCDX inbox indicating whether your manufacturer code request was approved or rejected. If approved, the 3-character code will be included in the notification.
STEP 4: Begin account setup for EV-CIS.
Once your manufacturer code is successfully registered electronically, you can begin the account setup process to establish users in your company.
