Engaging State and Tribal Partners
EPA's compliance assurance program works collaboratively with state, Tribal, and local co-regulators to exercise efficient use of resources and assure compliance with environmental laws.
The State Review Framework (SRF) assesses EPA and state compliance with the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, to ensure consistent implementation across the states. If program performance is found to deviate significantly from federal standards, EPA partners with each state to issue and monitor recommendations for corrective action. In addition to the SRF, EPA developed and recently began implementing the Drinking Water Review process to advance nationally consistent compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act.
EPA values partnership and collaboration, and we work to maintain constructive relationships with state and trade associations. For example, EPA's compliance assurance program actively participates in E-Enterprise for the Environment, through which we work with other EPA Offices, states, and Tribes to implement programs in a way that will benefit the regulated community and the public, as well as governments and co-regulators.
